Careers at Brooksbank

Introduction

front page picAll students have access to the Careers Resource Centre where they will find literature and resources to aid them in making well-informed decisions about their future. The Careers Leader works closely with our independent Careers Advisers from Calderdale and Kirklees Careers to ensure impartiality. Careers Education is included in the PSHCE Programme for all students.     One to One guidance or group sessions are available at key points in a student’s school career to help in making decisions for KS4, Post 16 choices and Post 18, as well as aiding application for work-based learning or training. The school has excellent relationships with a number of local employers, and opportunities for mock-interviews and workshops are available for students to access. The school has also achieved the quality standard in careers education information, advice and guidance.

Our Careers Programme

At The Brooksbank School, we aim to prepare our pupils to become work ready in order to enable them to be successful and independent upon leaving education. Our careers and work-related learning programme is a crucial element within this process, giving access to careers education activities, opportunities to find out about the local and national labour market, regular employer engagement within the curriculum, as well the opportunity to access 1-to-1 guidance from a Level 6 qualified careers adviser.

Our programme gives students:

  • The opportunity to take an active part in their career learning at multiple stages of their education
  • Access to useful information through local and national employers and the ability to network with prospective employers to improve future career prospects
  • An understanding of how their subjects at school link with the world of work and the importance of both employability skills and qualifications when entering the work force
  • A system for recording and reflecting on the activities they contributed to
